Paul Fokam Awards
Paul Fokam was born in 1948 in Mboukué, in the town of Baham, in the Highlands Department of the Western Region.
A graduate in economic management from the CNAM in Paris and a doctorate in management science (University of Bordeaux, 1989)1, he worked as an assistant to the branch manager of the Cameroon Bank from 1976 to 1979.
In 1993, he became a lecturer at the Technical Institute of Banking of the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris.
Career
In 1987, he founded the Caisse commune d’épargne et d’investissement (CCEI-Bank).
Banker, chairman of the Afriland First Bank group2, manager of the holding company3 SAPA, Paul Fokam is the initiator of the largest microfinance network4 in Cameroon5. His bank is present in several countries.
Until 2005, he owned 25% of the Compagnie Camerounaise Pharmaceutique (Ccp). The Société africaine de participation (Sapa), created in 1990 as an investment club, is a privately held company that has built up a diversified portfolio of 10 SMEs in the insurance, leasing, agribusiness, security, publishing, real estate development, logistics and transportation sectors.
In Sapa’s portfolio, there is the Société africaine d’assurance et de réassurance (SAAR) – controlled at 51.2% – with a capital of 2.5 billion, created in 1990. Mr. Paul Fokam is also at the helm of Sapi, a real estate company. This company is closely linked to Afriland First Bank and specializes in all real estate markets (housing, offices, shops, hotels, service residences, warehouses, public facilities, etc.). Its equity is estimated at more than 110 billion CFA francs.
Mr. Paul Fokam is also Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sitracel (Société industrielle pour la transformation de la cellulose, since 1984).
Author of several books on African development, Mr. Paul Fokam proposes endogenous solutions to the difficulties of African economies. He has published with L’Harmattan and Jaguar, he launched the Afredit publishing house and Maisonneuve Larose publishing house is in Sapa’s portfolio.
In February 2006, the same year he opened the PK Fokam Institute of Excellence, he created a television channel in London.
Paul Fokam is the promoter of the online television Vox Africa, which broadcasts from London since January 2008. He founded a private university in Yaoundé: the PKFokam Institute of Excellence6,7.
Private life
He is the father of Rolande Kammogne, a businesswoman.
